The former train crew quarters at 2nd Ave/Houston, located at the north end of the station, and now occupied by NYCT Stations Lighting, is two tracks wide. There are a series of short steps that lead up to the planned future northbound 2nd Avenue Subway platform, accessible today only from the now closed off full station mezzanine consisting of electrical hardware parts storage. The two track section at this location would have tied into the Brooklyn Fulton Street subway at the present Court Street station. The express tracks f the 2nd Avenue Subway would have turned south (East) towards Williamsburg and six track station at South 4th Street. Interesting note. The IND planers, and the initial 2nd IND system plans, the IND distinguish between the two 4th Street stations by including the geographic designation. West 4th station in Manhattan, and South 4th station in Brooklyn. The two 6th Avenue subway express tracks would have continue past 2nd Avenue Houston and into Brooklyn to meet the two 2nd Avenue Subway express tracks at South 4th Street. With a third pairs of tracks coming from a connection with the 8th Avenue Subway (Tracks A1/A2) south of the Canal Street station at Worth Street. |
