What was also not mentioned was that the exp stations were supposed to more or less follow the colors of the spectrum although a few were often missing from the sequence. I guess the B of T was obsessed with the color green since the cars and station entrance signs were green and the tile colors were supposed to radiate from W 4 St which was also green. It also should be noted that the colors of the local stations were the same as the next express station from the outer boroughs. Thus the colors matched the next southbound exp stop going to W 4 St from uptown Manhattan the Bronx and Queens but the next northbound exp stop coming from Brooklyn. It seems that after WWII the city wasn’t so circumspect about keeping the color system intact since had it been followed, Grant Av should have been the same color as Euclid instead of the 2 tone green it is.
