But the IRT proposed an el along Utica Avenue. It would have become an el at Carroll Street which I believe is why the street widens at that point in anticipation of an el.

Also, in 1968, the number of stations for the proposed subway was reduced. The Lefferts Avenue Station was renamed to Empire Blvd with a southern exit at Rutland Road. The next station was Church Avenue, then Avenue D, Kings Highway, Avenue N, and Flatbush Avenue.
