And yes,the GG1s were obsolete. That said, a GG1body with all of the then state of the art hardware that made the AEM7s robust would have been nice. Sometimes you are better off clean slate,sometimes not. I am a victim of a subway (BART) which made almost no good design decisions. Given that Parsons, Brinckhoff... was the lead firm of the design/management consortiumand they were the corporatedescendant of THE Parsons who designed the IRT, what we got was shameful.It took 20 years for the management to figure out coordinating schedules for cross platform transfers and they still can't runas many TPH as CTA was capable of with "obsolete" electric relay driven signals in the 1950s. |
