Posted by kp5308 on Tue Nov 6 18:13:03 2018 Helped my Mom & Stepdad by doing some home repair work on Sunday. On the way there I stopped by North Reading to shoot the departure of the Reading & Northern RDC Jim Thorpe service. All 53 trips for 2018 (45 from this location & 8 from Pottsville) sold out:Engineer Rich Bernhart poses before leaving: Spectacular departure show: Stopped by Reading yard to photograph the resident ex-Reading GP40-2 #3001. A few years back railfan message boards were reporting the engine would be repainted in the solid green with yellow striping scheme it was delivered with. Looks like that ain't gonna happen: On the way home I caught one of the westbound empty autorack trains. A typical "lashup" of one 6 axle locomotive passes through the Glenside section of the city. This day an ES44AC drew the assignment: A popular prop in the area is the partially restored Fleetwood Auto Body plant at the Richmond St. crossing of the NS Reading Line. In its heyday Fleetwood installed up to 80 percent of its bodies on Packard chassis, with only 10 percent for Cadillacs, but it is Cadillac with which Fleetwood is perhaps most strongly associated. The building pictured is the only part of the facility that survived a massive fire in 2006: |
