The arch roof ones has 12" collision posts as did the MP54A1 (clerestory) of 1930. The prior ones had 5" posts, and would readily telescope in wrecks. In diesel service, the clerestory roof P54's were banned from front and rear after the wrecks. The clerestory roof PB54's combines had seats removed. None of those survived the late 50's modernization era.The RVC wreck on gauntlet track neatly sliced the arch roof MP54 down the middle, but left the cab portion and collision post intact. Engineer survived. |
