A scattergun reply:Mike: you are correct, I misread Carleton's description of the changes in the station names. Bill's present day picture: No, that's new entry from the 1987-94. The rebuilt entry is the one with the pale green doors here . As Mike mentions it's providing ventilation. It may also be over the stairways down to the station mezzanine and platforms. Bill's old Erie picture: Those IRT style entries are on this old webpage . Select 5. Tube Stations and go 1/4 way down. They connected the two stations. David Pirmann's site discusses this station about 2/3's of the way down and at the bottom you can select pictures by location to see some interior shots. The location of the travellator is mentioned and so is a passage to the Erie Station. Bill |
