Ellis Street only extends to the east end of the station. Much of the station's length is directly on the water.

This could not be the terminal of the North Shore line, which not only was significantly inland, but was not a "terminal" in that the tracks continued (and continue to this day!) over a bridge into New Jersey.

The Carteret Ferry did not connect to the SIRT as it was at the foot of Victory Boulevard. Elizabeth is where the SIRT North Shore Line extends to.
