The existing Blue Line will be extended north of its current 7th Street/Metro Center terminus via the Regional Connector to Little Tokyo, then via the current Gold Line to Azusa (and maybe eventually Montclair). The East L. A. segment of the Gold Line will be extended through the Regional Connector and then will operate over the current Expo Line to downtown Santa Monica. In review:

NOW:

Blue Line: 7th St/Metro Ctr to Long Beach
Gold Line: Azusa-Union Station-East L. A.
Expo Line: 7th St/Metro Ctr-Santa Monica

LATER:

Blue Line: Azusa-Long Beach via Union Station
Gold Line: East L. A.-Santa Monica
