In 1970 I was in Paris...The Sprague's were fairly common back then. Their door mechanism was fairly simple. There was an hydraulic piston that pushed the doors shut. Once the train was clear of the station, the piston was released. Only the latches held the doors shut. The piston would again be actuated, when the train approached the next station. The piston would be released when the train stopped. The released piston would allow the passengers to manually open the door. There was no mechanism to open the doors. The pistons pushed the door shut. |
