Under most circumstances not only would there usually not be a train instantly available, but there would also not be a crew available to operate the train even if there were. If the terminal T/D is notified in enough time he/she could notify the yard, but it would still take time for a T/O to OK the train for service which is why in a delay of this kind, there is usually not enough time to get a replacement train that can fill the interval. |
