The lookup functions are closer to SQL's join. The problem is that join allows for one-to-many links and the lookup table does not have to be sorted. My experience has been that spreadsheets are used for applications for which they are not suited. Database tables may resemble spreadsheets. However, that's where the similarity ends with regards to operations performed on them. It might be possible to kludge something using a spreadsheet but you would be creating a kludge. My experience has been it's better to use appropriate tools for specific tasks. There may be a steep learning curve. In the end you will have something that's usable. |
