The average headway would seem to be between 2 and 3 minutes, meaning between 20 and 30 tph. How do you figure 40?Headways depend on two things: the ability of the signals/dwell times to handle the headways and operating trains to meet the headway. The first can be tested by operating trains at various headways. This will establish a minimum headway. Did you notice any 90 second headways? There were 5 such examples. The merge is at 11th St in Queens. If the tunnel signals could not handle 90 second headways, their arrival at Lex/59th would not show a 90 second headway. |
