That's true during GOH the H2CA couplers were removed and replaced by drawbars similar to what was done on the R-29 and R-33 cars at the factory. Not one R-26 or R-28 car was lost due to a wreck in the 40+ years they operated on the IRT. The last ACF built cars anywhere on the system....ACF decided to focus on freight cars since there was little or no market for passenger cars after the late 1950's since many of the railroads which operated passenger trains were slowly going broke and filing train off petitions by the dozens. |
