If I recall, at the time it did happen the trains were designated as Qs since it was only temporary. The MTA didn’t want to do away with the A on a permanent basis. The TA did something similar in the beginning of December 1962 when the 6 Av Line S/O 34/6 was compromised during the construction of the exp tunnels. No trains could be operated on 6 Av between 34/6 and W4 due to the subway infrastructure being weakened by blasting for the construction of the exp tunnels. The TA operated the 205 to Stl/Church via the 8 Av lcl as a DD which was a mislabel since while the train operated via 8 Av the signs clearly read “6 Ave Local.” To provide 6 Av service during rush hours a Concourse exp operated from Bed Pk to 34/6 as a “C” an again the trains were mislabeled since the signs read “8 Ave Express” even though the trains operated via 6 Ave. The AA/BB service patterns were reversed and the AA ran during rush hours while the BB ran during non rush, the exact opposite of the normal iND service patterns of the time. |
