Portland opened the MAX Orange Line, the Portland Streetcar loop lines, and Tilikum Crossing Bridge, all of which opened to the public on September 12, 2015.

Part 1: Scenes from Opening Day. (Warning: One of the images does NOT have any streetcars or MAX Light tail trains. So what?)

The first train of brand-new Type 5 cars came down from Lincoln/SW 3rd Avenue Station, were speeches were given by government, TriMet and project officials. It's approaching Waterfromt/SW Moody Station.

The bridge opened to the public at 11:00am. Hundreds of enthusiastic walkers and bikers begin their journey over the new bridge.

The first inbound train, comprised of Siemens Type 4s built in 2009, crosses the bridge.

The first clockwise loop Portland Streetcar passes the MAX Station. Its stop will be around the corner, on SW Moody.

The first counterclockwise loop streetcar operates on its own track through the MAX station, and is joining the MAX line.

A meet at West Tower with Inekon 009 and United Streetcar 024.

Most of the trains on the new Orange Line were either Siemens Type 4s or brand-new Type 5s. However, occasionally, an older train showed up. Here's Bombardier Type 1 123 leading an outbound train. These cars opened MAX in 1986.

And its mate, Type 3 317. The 100s must be coupled with a Siemens low-floor Type 2 or Type 3 to provide wheelchair access for the train.

As Groucho looks on, a train of Type 4s is leaving the east end of the bridge, approaching OMSI/SE Water Station. Portland Opera was sponsoring a showing of the Marx Brothers' "A Night At the Opera."

Looking down from one of the cars of the OMSI Aerial Tramway, a train of 500s is crossing the bridge outbound. The cable tramwaay service was free, as was all public transit in Portland for Orange Line Opening Day.

The Tilikum Crossing Bridge is illuminated at night. Here's a Streetcar on the clockwise loop.

And Type 1 121 trailing an outbound train. This scene closes out a great day!

Hope you enjoyed! Comments welcome.
