The City Hall Branch and the first part of the 2nd Avenue el opened on the same day, March 1, 1880. To avoid having the roads cross in front of each other the 2nd Avenue Line was routed to South Ferry and the 3rd to City Hall. A walkway transfer was established between the two at Chatham Square, no Metrocard needed. |
