Most of this happened during the 50, 60 to 70s...but the root of it began with Pratt wanting to expand... developers wanting to RENEW northern Brooklyn with so called Model Cities programs, especially along Myrtle ave...and real estate redlining/blacklisting...
The resulting effects were the gentrification of those nabs,where people ARE Being PRICED/Forced out.

Access To these nabs were curtailed by the removal of those els...and if fully carried out..would have had a detrimental domino effect.
That did not stop the MTA from attempting to remove the Broadway El,or shut the Canarsie Line...
Public outcry..(my grandfather was one of the protesters),keep the city from removing the trains,And keeping the planned new expressways through those nabs from being built.
