It was actually the mentality of the MTA at the time as well. They were created originally to fix the smoking crater known as the Long Island Railroad. No small job there. When they realized what a mess the subways were as well once they showed up, the priority was STILL the LIRR to them and the subways got the table scraps. And looks like that mindset lasted well into the 80's. :( |
