You can't do true HSR there because of the alignment. Most of it is either built up around or there's the river and wetlands around it that prevent alignment changes, but running an Acela type of trains up there with quick acceleration and braking would produce a similar result to what Amtrak did on the Shore Line of cutting time off of the schedule, even without true HSR. And there are probably some sections, especially north of POK that they could get going well over 100. Given Albany and NYC, they would get some good ridership out of a service like that. |
