I thought I'd give y'all a break and tear you away from the tragic events of February 3, 2015 with Metro-North, and take you out for some doings on the left coast. Sooo...

In 1983, the Western Pacific (the Feather River Route) was taken over by the Union Pacific. UP had long desired an entry into Oakland, and acquiring the "Wobbly" was the first piece of the puzzle. (The second would come in 1996, via merger with the Southern Pacific.)

Here are a few images of the route through the Feather River Canyon, along Spanish Creek, and at Keddie and Quincy. Viewed from west to east.

Lots of steam here. I have tons more diesel slides to process. But this sample is just to whet your appetite.
