If overhead was cheaper than 3rd rail it would have been installedIt is cheaper. However, Metro-North does not have enough Cosmopolitans to go around, and those are not cheaper than Metropolitans. Third rail was put in most likely for the sake of compatibility (and of course excuses to not run in the snow even though the NYC did). |
