Posted by milantram on Sat Nov 15 19:08:31 2014 Hi, gang!Well, it's taken a while because of having to move in mid-October, and then two two weekends of intense transitfanning on both coasts, but here are some pix that I promised from the Lo-V celebration with IRT 5466 at Shore Line Trolley Museum on October 12, 2014. The event coincided with the Museum's "Haunted Isle" extravaganza, and quite frankly, despite all the preparations made for both events, the volunteer staff found it difficult to cope, with some cancellations of the Lo-V runs. (Some of these photos are reposts.) The pullout. The Shore Line people did a stupendous job of re-restoration! Backpoling up toFarm River Road. Note the kerosene lamps. Passing the steps at Farm River Road. The sign is a replica of the one carried by Lo-V 4617 when these IRT stalwartss made their last run on the IRT mainline back in 1964. Heading for Sprague. First image is HDR. (Yes, that's how the sky came out!) At Sprague. Most of the people in line are waiting for the Haunted Isle Pumpkin Patch trolley. The conductor is maneuvering the pole so it faces in the direction of travel. Johnstown 357 leaves in front of 5466 wilt a load of Pumpkin Patchers. Crossing Farm River. The special departs, heading all the way to Short Beach. Coming back from Short Beach, approaching the picnic ground. Laying over at the "elevated station" between runs. This sign was on board 5466. Elevateds are the way to travel! I say bring 'em back! (I did the Third Avenue El in Manhattan at 8 years old.) Everyone who attended the Haunted Isle received a pumpkin. These folks are getting off Connecticut Co. 1602, built in 1911. The line of kids and adult kids for Haunted Isle extended for two blocks. The volume of Pumpkin Patchers was so great, the Museum was forced to scrub there 1:00pm Lo-V departure. I left at about 2:00, as I had to get to Mamaroneck to catch a train into New York for a meet with a cousin. But it was great to see the Lo-V. Next: The New York Subway's 110th Annivrsary pics, followed by Muni's Heritage Weekend. Enjoy! |
