People come into town thinking New York City is just manhattan, should we be depicting that on maps? It's about the same level of logic. If the subway operated only in Manhattan, that would make sense. But this isn't a "New York City Map," It's a SUBWAY MAP. If the subway extended into Nassau and Westchester, then the map would have to depict them, despite not being part of New York City. Of course, for whatever reason, the map has decided that it should also depict railroads and other transit links within its area of coverage. The argument here concerns the manner in which PATH should be depicted and whether it should be depicted at all. Just cause someone thinks it's a subway does not suddenly make it a subway. But some historical factoid about the way the system is regulated does not suddenly make it not a subway. The subway map is not about teaching history and politics to its users. And you of course are forgetting that not matter the disclaimers, by depicting the PATH equally in the subway map, people are going to think it's an MTA operation and complain to the MTA about everything about it. Then why not make that your argument instead of giving us a history lesson going back to the early 20th Century? |
