It was rebuilt in the early 1980's as a mall but two tracks were kept for displaying special cars and equipment. Metrolink has a stop at Union Station. The shot below is from Grand Ave., one stop before Union Station:

A few minutes later we arrived, about 1 hour, 40 minutes late. Standing on the adjacent track was the 9:15 Missouri River Runner to Kansas City. She left on time with our passengers making the connection. Note that she used Heritage fleet equipment except for the cafe car:
St. Louis station is an intermodal station, served by Amtrak, Metrolink, and bus. Riding the escalator up I caught site of two BNSF engines, with GP75M #221 still in Sante Fe warbonnet livery trailed by SD70ACe #8798:
I boarded a Metrolink train at St. Louis station and rode it out to Lambert Airport, where I rented a car:
