The escalator connecting the BMT Eastern Parkway station with the IND East New York station was built in 1948 or 49, so that Liberty Av/Pitkin Av passengers could transfer to the IND at Eastern Pkwy instead of Rockaway Av. Because of the switch configuration at Eastern Pkwy, the Liberty/Pitken trains had to arrive and leave on the side (local) tracks and use the center track just west of Eastern Pkwy to relay. |
