Gates Ave is the oldest rebuilt station in the system. It was the first eastern terminal for the Old Main Line, until it was expanded to Schenck Ave. The station was renamed Van Siclen Ave,after the line was farther routed to Cypress Hills.
After the Broadway el opened from Broadway Ferry, Gates Ave served as a shorturn for some of those B'way trains. Ironically, Gates Ave was the original planned route for the Old Main Line, instead of Lexington Ave.
