I'm surprised that this doesn't cause wrecks far more often. It's probably happened hundreds of times on MN and other railroads, it just happens that whatever curve the engineer zoned out for wasn't sharp enough to derail the train. The only way around humans is to have another human to back the engineer up (i.e. a fireman) or to have PTC. |
