Also, the axle with the tachometer must be completely free wheeling: unpowered and unbraked. They removed the friction brake on one of the axles of the unpowered truck of an R142A "B" car and added the tachometer to that axle to make it an R188 "C" car. Because of this the R188 trains have slightly less braking power than the R142A trains. |
