Bill from Maspeth and Fred G: I'm enjoying these comments about what was my favorite el line as a child. I used to ride the MJ all the time with my late father. We had family that lived down near the Brooklyn Navy Yard, so when we visited for Sunday dinner, we would ride those old Qs from Metropolitan Avenue down to Navy Street and walk to their apartment. As for what I have termed the Pirmann fiasco--unfortunately David and I exchanged some harsh words when he shut down the message board at nycsubway.org. He seemed to over-react to the presence of two or three lunkheads who wrote inflammatory, racial or political stuff, thereby ruining the chat board for hundreds of other railfans. I do respect the great photographic contributions David makes to the nycsubway.org, and still visit the site for railfan information like the March of Dimes trips. What David didn't do was simple--ban the nutcases from his site, permanently. And that, my fellow railfans, he should have done. |
