The Polo Grounds Shuttle Tunnel in the Bronx was built into hard rock well above the water table and could be naturally preserved indefinitely without any maintenance.Any Pitkin tunnel extension would have went through a hydrological nightmare. Anything man-made in such conditions has long ago been overtaken by Nature. |
