Something went on with the A7 and A8 yd leads but I can't say for sure if it was a backfill or not. When I first went in there in 1962, the rails and signals were still in although the switches had been removed and the tunnels ended in mounds of earth although I don't recall seeing any bumping blocks. IND old timers told me that Pitkin Yd used to make drill moves into those tracks so they must have at one time expended past what I saw. When I returned in 1983, there were cider block walls at the ends of the tunnels. THAT is where the cinderblock walls are and NOT at the end of the Fulton St portion under Pitkin Av. |
