The IND sent 30 R-10's (3320-49) to ENY in the fall of 1954 to familiarize crews with them in anticipation of the arrival of the R-16's. The first train of R-10's went into service on the Jamaica Line (15) on Nov 1, 1954. I have a snapshot of a train of R-10's with 3342 being the lead unit, making the turn after Crescent St on its way to 168th St.

Until that time service on the Jamaica line was held down by the Standards for many, many years. The Standards had no end route signs so regular riders never knew that the Jamaica line was the 15 until they saw it on the R-10 end signs in November 1954.

The first train of the new R-16's made its debut on the 15 the first week of January in 1955. All 200 R-16's were delivered to the BMT in numerical order with the 6400's arriving first, then the 6300's.

Fifty R-16's from the 6300 series were sent to the IND in 1956 in anticipation of the opening of the Rockaway line.
