Posted by gbs on Fri Aug 2 00:42:49 2013 From photos like this one, it appears that when they were first delivered, the R46s had uncovered vertical electric portions on both sides of the coupler: The current (heh, heh) configuration is different, with a single covered horizontal portion under the coupler:  Why was the design changed? I assume it happened during the major overhaul, when the side scrolls were converted to the electronic signs, the controllers were replaced, and so on. Or was it when the trucks were changed? Did any other car class have those dual vertical portions? (And be sure to notice how handsome the cars originally were, before the installation of the chains and brackets. Even the blue raccoon treatment across the front windows looks classy.) |
