I'd love for them to take several pairs of all the married pairs; leave one car in current state, and restore the other to the original state. For the 32's; one pair would be from 3350-3799; and the other would be one of the GE's, (except the 3500 pair in there), so that both versions of the original R-32, as well as both versions of the current would be represented. For the 38's, you would have one pair from 3950-4139, and then one frm 4140-4149, since those originally had A/C. The same with the slants. One pair non/A/C; the other A/C. The 40m and 42 would only need one pair each. That would only be 16 cars. The doors would be restored as well, though on the 32 and 38, putting contact or whatever over the stainless steel would suffice. (there is one 32 out there I've had a few times that had some sort of gray contact or pain on one of the end doors, though it is mostly peeled off). The only thing missing would be those wider rubber things on the bottom of the side doors. It's the 40's and 42's where the doors have smaler windows, and are basically the same used on the 32's and 38's. I would say take out the stainless steel and put in whatever was used on some of the redbirds (some of the side doors were basically new, but were some red material--looked like formica, and not stainless steel, of course. Put back in the center lights as well. But all of this is a pipe dream. They could not even put back the original type windows (saved from reef cars) on that mixed IRT museum train. Killed it for me; because those new windows were made to emulate the R-33 and afterward "European" windows, and what I liked about the IRT was that they were not taken over by those like the BMT/IND was. So ugh! Those A/C units would kill the IRT experience for me as well, and I bet they didn't even repaint the insides, right? |
