One bad scenario here is the NTSB determines that there was a defect in the M-8 that caused the derailment. This will more than likely give a stay of execution to the M-2s on death row if that was to come to pass.That would be bad news. Those M-2s are tired. They did their time. But I think of the R-46s with the cracks in the trucks. To get that fixed & maintain some service, they had to ressurect some R-16s. When the M-1 had break in problems on the LIRR, that kept some MP-54s around & they were beyond tired. So there are precedents with new equiptment. Im sure there is some suit in the ivory tower speculating this scenerio. Just keeping in mind, until the jury comes back, everything is on the table. |
