For a pretty severe accident I'm glad that the injuries have been fortunately limited.

Opinions:
Gold's Sat May 18 14:15 picture "Heavy damage of 9193, 9247 on the right" -because 9247 was already derailed it would have been sitting lower. So 9193's cheek hit it in the window post. I think that might be the reason 9193's damage is surprisingly light. 9247 however reveals an old weakness, cars don't fare well in end on collisions if they are offset enough to miss the collision posts. The same hazard shows up in Europe too.

Gold's Sat May 18 15:24 picture "NTSB is looking at it..." -the right rail upright with snapped joint bars and the tie plate bent up where the left rail was located sure make the next 50-100' forward look worthy of close investigation. This doesn't look like exactly where the wheels hit the ties however, no cuts on either side. And I wouldn't try to infer whether the wheels failed the rail or vice versa.
