My first tentative trips on the subway alone involved me taking the A home from JHS (I went to 210 in Ozone Park). I'd walk up to Liberty, grab an A (even the occasional slant!), took it to Bway-ENY, then hop on the J home. I thought I was doing something very dangerous. By 1986, I was riding the J back and forth from Broad St. on weekends, and I gradually worked up the nerve to explore the rest of the system. |
