Look at it this way: the MTA needs a fare hike. There are two ways they could go about it: an additional quarter across the board (so $2.75 instead of $2.50) or this $1 surcharge on new cards which can be avoided with due diligence.Only the disorganized, stupid or lazy should be complaining about this, because those are the people who are affected. Up here in Albany it's not uncommon to see Metrocards in people's wallets - if those of us 150 miles away can keep reusing the same card surely city residents can. |
