Posted by Nilet on Tue Feb 12 15:53:52 2013, in response to Nilet, that is great news, replacing the 1 train with the 5 train Re: So umm -- about South Ferry..., posted by kew gardens teleport on Tue Feb 12 11:39:58 2013. If we're going to be reviving the "Great News" meme, then I'll dig into the archive of dead memes and start posting Nilet Railroad system updates.-Effective March 17th, service will be discontinued on the Orient Line from Däne to Meridon City. Nilet Railroad tickets for points east of Däne will be honoured on Eastern Spider trains, but only grudgingly. -Effective April 15th, Cricket Star Express fares will increase by 35/ in First Class and 50/ in Executive Class for travel between Dethrox City and Däne and by 15/50 in First Class and 30/ in Executive Class for travel between intermediate or non-corridor points. -Effective April 15th, a Transfer Charge of 5/50 will be applied to all Beetle tickets for continuous journeys requiring a transfer where Firefly Express service is available without transfer. If a ticket incurring a Transfer Charge is used on a Firefly Express train, the amount of the Transfer Charge will be credited against the Step-Up Fare. -Due to construction at Däne's South Business District terminal, non-corridor Beetle trains bound for Däne will terminate at Tarmy Junction - Mistiff Terminal. Firefly Express service will make additional stops at Talif, Malaby, and Banbrinstin, and Beetle tickets will be honoured on Firefly Express trains without surcharge for travel between Tarmy Junction and Däne during construction. -Effective March 31st, the City of Anaday will be discontinued and replaced with a Cricket Star Express train which runs through from Däne to Anaday, running according to the same schedule as the City of Anaday between Märkesh and Anaday. -Effective March 31st, GETP passengers must purchase an adult ticket to travel on Nilet Railroad. -Effective March 31st, Nilet Railroad will modify its fare categories to simplify its fares and provide a single unified fare scheme. Under the modified rules: --Beetle trains will continue to offer only one class of service, at a lower fare than Firefly Express trains. --Firefly Express service will offer Coach and Business class service. Beetle tickets will be honoured in coach class on Firefly trains upon payment of a flat 7/50 step-up fare. --Cricket Star Express trains will offer First and Executive class service by reservation only. --All trains will be classified as Beetle, Firefly, or Cricket services. The former designations of Commuter, Commuter Plus, Premium Express, Connector, and City Of service will be retired, and the Traveler's Plus, Premium, Club, and other classes of service will be reclassified. On an equipment standpoint, it seems all heritage cars have been retired from service. Zone G has been completely re-signaled to Nilet Railroad standards, so the ex-Gillibrait fleet is long gone. Some of the cars have been sold to Far North railroad, but alas, all of the former goldbar lounge cars have been scrapped. The ex-Southern cars that had been running on Dänetrain appear to have vanished; an engineer at Simal-Nora claimed they were rented, not purchased; they were returned to Nilet Railroad at the conclusion of the lease and were subsequently scrapped. Beetle service is now using mostly Model 72 MU trains with their ugly yellow paint scheme but a few branch lines are still running refurbished 69A cars. The original Model 69 and the Model 66 cars have all since been scrapped. Firefly Express service is run with S130 and S131 trainsets, plus the occasional S129 (which is actually just an S127 or S128 after GOH). Cricket Star Express trains are still using the well-worn Cityliner trains but new trains are on order from Fulisama Industries and expected to enter service in early 2014. The Commuter and Commuter Plus services are no longer using dedicated equipment, with trains for those services being supplied out of the standard Beetle and Firefly pools respectively, which is to be expected as they get reclassified at the end of March. The MK1 and MK2 PES trains are all retired from service; Premium and City Of trains are now equipped out of the Firefly Express pool; an initial harbinger of things to come, it now seems certain that Premium and City Of trains will be downgraded to unnamed, unreserved Firefly connections. The MK3 PES trains are still running, but they're being used for local service on the Orient Line which is slated for closure, so it's extremely likely that they'll be retired when Eastern Spider takes over the Orient Line. Figures it's fairly boring now. I wish I'd more chances to ride the old heritage equipment, but then I might as well wish I'd ridden the old railroads prior to the Nilet takeover. Or at least the chance to ride the old Model 54 MUs with the RFWs. At least I got one ride on a Southern Railroad local train from Malik to Gravastan; after the merger, Nilet Railroad shut down that route entirely. ![]() |
