Wine is for running "native winblows" stuff and of course eats mono in order to emulate the dotNot stuff - our world is based on BSD and depends on any Linux code to be portable enough to compile in BSD. In recent years, Linux devs have written code so poorly, it isn't even portable across different Linux distros, much less other 'nixes.

It's been about a year now since the last time I tried to compile the sources for OpenBVE (we're in the process of a new 9.1 version of KNOS) and it was major fail. The problem with Mono in general is that because it emulates Microsoft, it also brings along many of the high stupids of poor security with it, and since KNOS is military-grade secure, we can't allow any of that. This is the reason why I have pushed Michelle so hard in the past to drop that stuff and use OpenGL which doesn't require hooks into the kernel itself.

Once we have 9.1 fully built though, I'll give it a try. But that's the reason why I'm so down on all that Mono stuff ...
