Heres how the Steinway tunnel Queensbound grade problen can be resolved. Remove that timer just past the first ave crossover so trains can get a little guiddyup momentum attacking the big hill before VJ. Less strain on the motors, less juice used & a nice breeze on the Vernon-Jackson platform! The problem is the First Avenue interlocking. Going Queens-bound, you have two GT-30 timers going down the grade, then a 20 MPH speed restriction across the switches, then one more GT-30 going up the grade. By then you're dead. |
