I suppose I have the issue with them because I too remember the tremendous esthetic impact they made on the #4 line (R-62). I even remember reading that the introduction of these cars started attractign more riders back. THey actually revealed the numbers in the newspaper. The first NEW car I was old enough to remember was the R-46. But when it was delivered all shiny and new there was no comprehensive plan to deal with esthetic and vandalism issues with the rest of the rolling stock. When the R-62 was delivered, they were part of David Gunn's comprehensive plan of finally dealing with esthetics and vandalism. To this day the GOH Redbird on the #2 line is my favorite. I even purchased the Lionel set of them as a feel good post 9/11 gift to myself on 9/14. THe only R-62 (A) that look good are on the shuttle with the wraps. |
