I've nver operated, and I don't expect to operate a train. But simply driving my car for 28 years, I think of a few close calls- all but one involved children darting out. The most recent was 5 or 6 years ago- a kid, about 11 years old, on a bicycle, came out nowhere at all and passed right in front of me. Luckily I was doing about 10-15 mph and was able to stop without making contact. The boy continued racing away, not even aware of what nearly happened to him.I know that my life would never be the same if I hit a pedestrian or bicyclist-even if it was their fault. Reading that T/Os are lucky to go 5 years without a 12-9 really wakes you up. And think about the condition of a person hit by a train- damn.... |
