I am not a fan of Moses either, but in this instance he was right. The Shea Stadium site was much more convenient for the Dodger fan base which was moving out of the city and made more sense for future growth potential on Long Island. It is interesting to note that O'Malley, for all of the largesse given to him by the City of Los Angeles, did not look into the distant future. He built his stadium on a hill overlooking the city, which precluded the Dodgers being served by direct rail rapid transit. The parking lot was designed by a descendent of the guy who designed the Titanic to be unsinkable. |
