Posted by sloth on Fri May 4 10:51:35 2012, in response to Re: PRR commuter steam on the NEC, posted by Dave on Fri May 4 09:55:22 2012. The last steam locomotive was a B6sb 0-6-0, #5244, leased to a short line in NJ. Steam on PRR's own lines stopped running at the end of November 1957.The last two K4's on the Long Branch were #612 and #830, which ran in the morning rush of November 4, 1957, and then deadheaded to Camden. This is per Don Wood's NY&LB book. The last K4 to run in revenue service was #5351, a week later, on a Pemberton to Camden commuter run. A few freight engines continued in service until the end of the month. I am curious if anyone knows when the last M1 4-8-2 ran. It doesn't seem to be anywhere on the internet. |
