To reguage a Philadelphia PCC from 5' 2.5" to standard gauge requires totally dissembling the truck, pulling the wide gauge axle out and inserting a standard gauge axle plus rebuilding the track brake hangers to standard gauge. That's why MUNI send the cars to Brookville, they are equipped to do large numbers of PCC rebuilds.All PCC trucks are built as standard gauge, it's the axle widths that set the gauge. |
