I doubt 50+ years ago when those orders were done they ever thought the R-32s would still be in service while potentially FOUR later classes of cars on the BMT/IND (R-38, R-40, R-42 and R-44) all were completely retired and in the scrap heap along with the R-33 and R-36 IRT cars that came out not too long before or at the same time as the R-32s.

To put it in perspective, the BMT Standards were still in service when the R-32s debuted in 1964.
