I first did it the day I took those photos around 1990 or 1991, and while it probably wasn't quite as bad as it was in 1986, it was very rough. I was with a friend, and we moved quite fast down the rickety old stairs down to the IND. The station there was like a time warp. It's too bad it was in such a bad neighborhood at the time, as I would have loved to spend more time outside there exploring the remnants of the old Fulton El. I didn't go back until after it was rebuilt, and by then while the neighborhood was much improved, all the old feel of the old structure was also gone. |
