Perhaps you could count B-types as more than one equipment type (I wouldn't) but many of the BUs were dramatically different from each other, more so than, say, the R16, R27s, R32s and R38s. The only things that were pretty much the same across BUs were the width and length dimensions, and the fact that they used end gates. The BUs did go through a massive standardization program from about 1904-1906, but they were still notably different. Even among the TD Co. BUs, would your consider the 1000s, 1200-1400s and 1300s the same car type?
